{healthy} Cilantro Lime Ranch Dipping Sauce

If you’ve submitted your DNA to 23andme recently, you know that there’s a gene that determines whether or not it’s likely that you like the taste of cilantro. Some people think cilantro tastes like soap or other unappetizing flavors. I am not one of those people. I love cilantro. I eat it with anything Mexican and more. I love it in guacamole, as a garnish on soup or tacos and even in pesto (instead of basil).

This year for the Super Bowl instead of having buffalo wings with ranch or blue cheese dressing, I decided to try something different: a cilantro lime ranch sauce. While it didn’t taste totally marvelous with buffalo wings it came in handy as a dressing for a kale and avocado salad and as a dip for chicken strips.

I went with healthier than I’d normally eat for two reasons 1) health purposes and 2) because I was curious if I could detect a healthy taste or if it would fool me into thinking it was the real full fat deal. I can’t tell you I noticed I was eating a healthier dressing/dip which means this recipe passes the test!

ingredients.

  • ½ c. avocado mayo
  • ¾ c. Greek yogurt (I used nonfat)
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 jalapeno
  • ½ c. cilantro leaves loosely packed
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • black pepper, to taste
  • ½ lime, juiced

directions.

  1. Put all ingredients in a high-speed blender or food processor and process until smooth. Let chill at least two hours or prepare the day before serving.
  2. Eat with veggies, flautas, taquitos, buffalo wings or fries, drizzled over tacos or quesadillas, as a spread on a sandwich, wrap or burger or as a dressing for salad.
